Why Double Down?

by oneeye

This rule is favorable to the player when used in the right situation. The player is often allowed to double down after their first two cards have been dealt.  Players would normally take advantage of this when the dealer has a bad face up card, for instance a 2 to 6, and the player has a better total of say 10 or 11.  In this situation there is a greater chance of the dealer busting and or the player getting a 21 or 20. The player will only recieve one card when doubling down.

Some casinos allow double down after a split and this is even more advantageous to the player, however much fewer casinos allow this.
